The surface of the body is roughened and decorated with applied reliefs painted in natural colours. Under the lip a laurete bust within a wreath, on one side the full-length figure of a naval officer, brandishing a sword and holding a speaking trumpet, a gun behind. A warship is shown on the other side. The handle ends in foliage picked out in blue and moulded ridges on the base of the jug are similarly picked out in green.
