Cup

Trafalgar centenary commemorative loving cup. The body is in colour-glazed stoneware with three rope twist handles coloured yellow. Moulded decoration on the sides consists of dark blue panels bordered with rope twist on which are placed three pale blue medallions. The background is a mottled blue-green. On one medallion, an oval profile portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with a coronet above. 'LORD NELSON' is inscribed on either side 'BORN 1758 DIED 1805' above. The second medallion bears the Trafalgar signal, 'ENGLAND . EXPECTS . EVERY . MAN . WILL . DO . HIS . DUTY' (a coronet above and below) and the third medallion shows Nelson's coat of arms with the motto 'TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO' around the shield and 'FIDES . ET . OPERA' on a ribbon below.
