Cup

Three handled loving cup commemorating the Trafalgar centenary, printed in full colour and gilt. On one side is an oval profile portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), a naval crown above, flanked with a Union Jack and White Ensign, the chelengk and San Josef crests below. Around the portrait is inscribed 'ADMIRAL . LORD . NELSON BRITAIN'S . NAVAL . HERO', above 'LEST WE FORGET' below 'BORN 1758 . DIED 1805.' A second panel shows Britannia in Neptune's sea chariot, the oval surrounded by shamrocks, roses, thistles and leeks. Inscribed around Britannia: 'BRITANNIA . RULES . THE . WAVES. BRITONS . NEVER . SHALL . BE . SLAVES'. Above ' OF THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR OCT. 21. 1805' below 'H.M. EDWARD VII BORN 1841. ACCESSN 1901'. The third panel shows 'H.M.S. VICTORY', '1805' and 'H.M.S. KING EDWARD VII', '1905'. Above is inscribed 'TO CELEBRATE THE CENTENARY' below 'H.M. GEORGE III. BORN 1738. DIED 1820.' The Trafalgar signal 'ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY' and flags are printed inside the rim. Anchors, a rose, shamrock and thistle are printed on the handles. There is a gold wave pattern on green round the foot, a laurel wreath outside the rim and gold rope twist inside the rim. The maker's mark is printed underneath. This is number 61 of an edition of 100.
