Jug

Pratt ware jug with moulded decoration in relief painted blue, yellow, ochre, green and brown. Below the lip, a full-length standing figure representing Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), holding a speaking trumpet in his left hand; his right arm is missing. 'Nelson' is inscribed above in brown. A gun, anchor and flag are placed behind him, all enclosed in a laurel wreath. On one side of the jug is a starboard-quarter view of a ship under sail. On the other side is a figure of Britannia with a lion and marines to the left and right. Clasped hands appear above. The jug has blue lines painted around the rim and base. Trophies of arms are moulded on the neck and leaf decoration on the shoulders and base.
