Plate

A commemorative plate depicting RMS 'Lusitania' 1907. It is transfer-printed and made of bone china. In the centre is a coloured picture of a liner at sea with 'LUSITANIA' on its hull, a buoy marked 'SANDY HOOK' in the foreground (off New York). The crest of the Cunard Line is shown in the border above with 'THE CUNARD STEAMSHIP COMPANY LTD' on a ribbon below. The border itself is decorated with yellow, pink and blue scrolling foliage on a white background. The outer border has a design suggesting compass points. The plate was probably produced to commemorate the launch of 'Lusitania'. She was sunk on 7th May 1915 by a torpedo from 'U.20' near the Old Head of Kinsale.
