Mug
Earthenware commissioning mug for 'HMS Ariadne'. It is white with a gilt rim and handle, a transfer-print in blue on one side with the ship's name 'HMS ARIADNE' and badge, which is a wreath of vine containing a celestial crown with stars on each point. On the other side, the inscription 'FIRST COMMISSIONING 2nd March 1973'. There is a key pattern in relief around the base. The mug was issued to the officers and crew of 'Ariadne' and a surplus of 300 mugs were offered for general sale.
