A Copenhagen porcelain wall plate with holes for suspension on the reverse. On a blue ground, a printed portrait of a schooner under sail inscribed 'STA SCHOONER 1968 MALCOLM MILLER 1980'. On the reverse is inscribed 'THE STA MARINE PLATE NO 2 -1980. THE STA SCHOONER 'MALCOLM MILLER' WAS BUILT IN 1966-67 AT JOHN LEWIS' YARD AT ABERDEEN. A SISTERSHIP OF THE 'SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL' THE MAJOR COST OF HER CONSTRUCTION WAS A GIFT BY THE LATE SIR JAMES MILLER IN MEMORY OF HIS SON, MALCOLM, WHO WAS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT. SHE IS OPERATED BY THE STA SCHOONERS, BOSHAM, CHICHESTER, SUSSEX AS A TRAINING SHIP FOR THE YOUTH OF ALL NATIONS. Length overall 135 feet, Beam 25 feet, Tonnage 300 ton, Draught 16 feet. DESIGNED BY CAMPER AND NICHOLSON LTD, SOUTHAMPTON.' Part of the proceeds from the sale of this series of plates went to support the Sail Training Association. The maker's mark is printed on the base.
