A Copenhagen porcelain wall plate with holes for suspension on the reverse. On a blue ground, a printed portrait of a schooner under sail inscribed 'STA SCHOONER 1966 SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL 1979'. On the reverse is inscribed 'THE STA MARINE PLATE NO 1 -1979. THE STA SCHOONER 'SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL' WAS BUILT IN 1964-66 AT RICHARD DUNSTON'S YARD AT HESSLE ON THE HUMBER. SHE ENJOYED NO LAUNCHING CEREMONY BECAUSE A FEW DAYS BEFORE THIS WAS DUE, SHE FELL OVER ON THE STOCKS, LUCKILY WITHOUT SERIOUS DAMAGE. SHE WAS NAMED WHEN AFLOAT AFTER COMPLETION. SHE IS OPERATED BY THE STA SCHOONERS, BOSHAM CHICHESTER, SUSSEX AS A TRAINING SHIP FOR THE YOUTH OF ALL NATIONS. Length overall 135 feet Beam 26 feet Tonnage 300 TM Draught 16 feet. DESIGNED BY CAMPER AND NICHOLSON LTD, SOUTHAMPTON.' Part of the proceeds from the sale of this series of plates went to support the Sail Training Association. The maker's mark is printed on the reverse.
