'Naval Characters' - Volume of Letters to Sir John Norris.
Letters to Sir John Norris, with reference to CENTURION's prize, CABADONGA, 1743. This volume also contains a letter to Lord Anson, 1742, and a share certificate of the South Sea Company. Some of the richest and most distinguished men of the time were stockholders in the company. They included King George I, the scientist Sir Isaac Newton, the architect Sir John Vanbrugh, the poet Alexander Pope, the playwright John Gay, the writers Jonathan Swift and Daniel Defoe, and the bookseller Thomas Guy - who built Guy's Hospital in London. Also contains several engravings.
