This is a commercial print produced by Ah Fong of Shanghai and Wei-hai-Wei. A note in pencil on the reverse gives the date of the photograph as 1911/12. This is consistent with the date of Monmouth’s deployment to the China Station.
2. A portside near beam view just forward of the broadside of the Laird 26-knot torpedo boat destroyer HMS Lynx (1894). The exact date of the image is unknown, but is definitely pre-1901 due to the colour scheme of the hull and turtleback. This is a commercial print produced by Symonds & Co. of Portsmouth, and shows signs of re-touching.
3. A portside near beam view just aft of the broadside of the Bellerophon class battleship HMS Temeraire (1909). The ship is fitted with a clinker screen on the fore-funnel (fitted in 1917) and is painted a light colour, suggesting deployment to the Mediterranean (1918-1919). This is a commercial print produced by Gieres Ltd.
