Specifications for a fast iron corvette (proposed 1872)

3 page specifications, undated and unsigned, for "an Iron Fast Corvette to be built very strong for ramming purpose" and [see letter below] "for convoying merchant ships and also for independent cruizing on the look out for privateers". Length: 270 ft.
On the front page has been added in red ink:
- "Copy to Mr. Barnaby with pencil sketch of sails and arrangment of guns. 21-2-72"
- "Copy to Mr. Barnaby with a tracing sketch as nearly like the above as it could be made with the information in our possession. 24-6-72"
A 2-page letter has been stappled to the specifications in wrong order: dated 29 February 1872, signed by Nathaniel Barnaby, Director of Naval Construction, and adressed to Captain [Robert] Hall, Naval Secretary.
