A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-8. Two bone buttons each pierced with four holes. They may have been the ones found by the Schwatka Search expedition 1878-9, in the grave of Lieutenant John Irving. Royal Naval Museum MSS draft catalogue 1913, Franklin Room, case 7, number 5 'Relics found in the grave of Lieutenant John Irving R.N. H.M.S. 'Terror', two small gilt uniform buttons, two large bone buttons. Two small bone buttons, and some small portions of clothing.
