Ice in the River Thames off Gravesend, 1895
The River Thames at Gravesend during the prolonged frost in February 1895. A view looking east down Gravesend Reach, showing the shipping moored below the town. Near to the camera are Custom House Pier and the foreshore covered in lumps of ice. Close to the shore just beyond Custom House Pier is the Port Sanitary hulk Hygeia (1865). The date /2/95 is scratched on the reverse of the negative.
