Ice in the River Thames off Gravesend, 1895
A half plate negative. The River Thames at Gravesend during the prolonged frost in February 1895. The photographer is looking across Gravesend Reach from Gordon Promenade showing a Gravesend bawley at anchor in the foreground. Her shrimp boiler is prominent abaft the mast. A tug, a collier and a general cargo ship are at moorings in midstream. The Tilbury Hotel is visible in the background. This photograph is slightly out of focus.
