A whole plate negative. The Nelson Tap public house at the corner of Stone Street and New Road at Gravesend. The view is looking east towards King Street. The Nelson Inn, at the corner of Windmill Street and New Road, is behind the Nelson Tap with Livery Stables between them. On the oposite side of New Road is Caddel's Printing Office established in 1814 and the General Drapery Store.
Demolition of the Nelson Tap and surrounding buildings started in March 1876 to make way for improvements to the town centre. This negative is a companion to G2336, which shows the site of the 'Nelson improvements' from another direction.
