The Sailors' Home at Gravesend
A 12x10 negative. A photograph taken from the Royal Terrace Pier at Gravesend at high tide. The view is looking south-east towards the Sailors' Home with Custom House on the right. On the left is New Haven Fort. Small boats are moored in the foreground. The Sailors' Home was the rebuilt Commercial Hotel and before that the Wates Hotel. The hexagonal timber built Custom Lookout is still (2016) in existence. Among the many boats are two with raised sloping bulwarks and hinged covers. Negative number G572 was taken on the same occasion.
