Warrior (1860)

No scale given, but measurements correspond to 1:48. Drawing titled 'Plan of Hold for an Iron Frigate of 36 Guns and 1250 H.P. [horsepower]'.

The plan shows seven half sections through the fore and aft handing rooms, fore and aft magazines, after end of the engine room, shell room and forward end of the boiler room of the Warrior (1860), a broadside ironclad. Below the half-section drawings is a plan view of the hold.

This plan is a proposal drawing drafted some three months before the ship was ordered. As such, the internal compartments are well-defined and illustrated, but detail of fittings is lacking. The use of this plan is a discussion piece is illustrated by calculations in pencil near the sections and similar annotations on the after handing room area.

Joseph Large [2nd Assistant Surveyor in 1859]
James Graff [Draftsman 1st class in 1859]

The plan was drafted by James Graff at the Admiralty, Whitehall.
