The Royal Terrace Pier at Gravesend
A 12x10 negative. The eastern side of the Royal Terrace Pier at Gravesend, taken from the Custom Pier. Negatives numbers G800 and G801 were made a few days after the Royal Terrace Pier was re-opened for river traffic in a ceremony performed on 6 June 1894. The structure and its surroundings had been modernised in order to fulfil the requirements of Trinity House pilots at Gravesend. The extension of the pier by means of a footbridge and pontoon enabled it to be accessed at all times of the tide. The date 16/6/94 is scratched on the reverse of the negative.
The top left corner of the negative is cracked and repaired with tape. A small piece of glass is missing.
