The Sailors' Home and Custom House at Gravesend
A 12x10 negative. A general view of the Sailors' Home, Custom House and Harbour Master's office at Gravesend, taken looking south from a boat in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. The harbour master's office is the semi-circular room on the roof of the Custom House. A notice on the berth on the extreme left reads "Nearest landing to Harbour Master's Office". The hexagonal timber built custom lookout is prominent. New Haven Fort is on the left.
There is a crack right across the negative, but the glass is held together with pieces of tape at the edges. 'Custom House 89' is written on the reverse in pencil.
