The early career of Admiral Sir Oliver Backhouse

A half leather bound photograph album with the binding broken, featuring 115 prints of various sizes pasted in to 49 pages in generally fair condition, with manuscript captions. Five prints are loose, the spine is broken and some pages are loose. The album covers the early career of Admiral Sir Oliver Backhouse, showing courses at the Royal Navy College, Greenwich, Whale Island, the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon's Persian Gulf tour and the capture of Illig.
The album also shows ship portraits of: Hyacinth (1898), Majestic (1895), Belleisle (1876), Angler (1897), Sealark (1843), and topographial views of: Majorca, Cape Town, Simonstown, Kandy, Columbo, Bombay, Karachi, Muscat, Aden, Singapore.
