Jug
An earthenware lustre jug with transfer-printed designs, painted yellow. green and red and glazed. It has a fluted lip. It shows on one side the Wear Bridge 1796 : 'A WEST VIEW of the IRON BRIDGE a over the WEAR / under the Patronage of R. BURDON Esq,. / Span 236 feet FT 100 Cast 214 tons Wt 46.' Under the lip, a sailing vessel, the verse below, within a border of flowers; ‘Glide on my bark the summers tide, / Is gently flowing by thy side; / Around thy prow the waters bright / In circling rounds of broken light / Are glitt’ring as if ocean gave / Her countless gems to deck the wave’. A ship with the verse below on the side of the jug: ' May Grace & Plenty / On our nation smile / and Trade with Commerce / Bless the British Isle'.
