SS Kasenga in Pack Ice 14 April 1912
A small painting of a Bucknall Steamer SS Kasenga in pack ice. Painted by C.W.K. Horne MM. Dated 14.4.1912.
In early 1912 Kasenga sailed from Calcutta to Boston/New York via Suez. The ship arrived at Boston on 19 April after encountering serious ice in North Atlantic – four days after the Titanic had hit the same ice and five days after the date of this painting. This small watercolour was probably made at the time, while the Kasenga was stuck in the ice, or shortly afterwards.
