Macquarie (1875)

A photograph album with a broken laced spine and board covers containing 61 prints (mostly quarter plate) pasted in, with 2 loose photographs. Some of the photos have been copied. The album features photographs taken during a voyage aboard the Macquarie (1875). The vessel is ship-rigged, therefore the photos date from before 1893 when it was converted to a barque. The photos are rather faded. Many of them include sails.

Followed by a number of blank pages, with two items loose. Firstly a card blue marked “A happy new year” on which is mounted a photo of ‘Macquarie’ with bare spars anchored off a harbour. Secondly, a very faded image apparently commemorating Captain F W Corner RNR, with an image of ‘Macquarie’ in the bottom left corner. There is a list of names, handwritten, but not legible. The final page of the album has a handwritten address to a Mr C Little, SS ‘Dromore Castle’ c/o Castle Line Agents, New York.
