Album relating to the career of Captain Roger Prideaux Selby, DSO, RN (1894-1976), part 2

A bound, board covered photograph album (one cover has come off).

This album contains photographs taken while Selby was serving on board HMS Ceres (1917) and HMS Centurion (1911) as a lieutenant from March 1919 until July 1926. Included are views of Malta, Riga, Zara, Fiume, Split (Spalato), Sevastapol, and Constantinople. There are photographs of the Italians entering Fiume in 1919 and of the evacuation of refugees from Odessa, 1920. Ships include HMS Cardiff (1917), HMS Sportive (1918), HMS Princess Margaret (1914) and HMS Excellent, Whale Island. Topics include the coal strike of May 1921. FM Allenby also features.

HMS Ceres (1917) was with the 6th Light Cruiser Squadron June 1917-1919 and served in the Baltic November 1918-1919. She was with the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron, Adriatic and Mediterranean 1919 and Black Sea 1920. The photographs taken while Selby was serving in HMS Centurion (1911) date from 1923-24 while she was in the Mediterranean. Selby has captioned most of the photographs in this album. There are references to HMS Ceres involvement in the evacuation of refugees from Odessa in the book ‘Goodbye Russia’ by Captain Evan Cameron.
