HMS Superb (1907)
A string bound card covered album with some loose pages, containing 40 photographs.
In 1918 HMS Superb (1907) was sent to re-inforce the British-Eastern Mediterranean Squadron. In November 1918 she led a combined British-French naval force through the Dardanelles to Constantinople after the Turkish signing of the armistice. HMS Superb (1907) was the flagship of Vice-Admiral Gough-Calthorpe. This album contains photographs of HMS Foresight (1904), HM M1 (1917) and HMS Superb (1907). There are views of Mudros and Constantinople as well as the crew taking part in the ship’s Christmas sports day. There is a group photograph of staff officers including W P Cowley and also a nice photograph of the ship’s dog.
William Percy Cowley was born in 1887 on the Isle of Man and served as a temporary Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant, RNVR from January 1918 employed in coding and clerical work. He was demobbed 25th March 1919.
