Album of John Derwent Allen, Vice Admiral RN (1875 -1958)
A green cloth covered album containing 48 photographs glued in, with one loose. The spine is missing and the front cover is loose.
The album relates to HMS Hood (1891) in the Mediterranean 1896-98 and HMS Hyacinth (1898) in 1903, with photographs of Athens and Canea (Crete). There are also photographs of the Captain and officers on board HMS Hood in 1896, Lieutenants on board HMS Hood 1896-96; and photographs of HMS Hyacinth at Plymouth in 1903 and of the ship's company.
Also included are photographs of HMS Australia (1886), with locations including: Castellamare, Sorrento, Sudan Bay, Fiume, Trieste, Venice, Corfu, Palermo, Naples, Pompeii, Alexandria, Cairo, the Nile.
There are also photographs of camping at Volo in 1896.
