The ship and deck plans have been consulted when cataloguing this album.
1. A starboard side view looking down the top deck towards the stern of the vessel. The photographer is standing approximately 101ft from the stern.
2. A starboard side view looking down the top deck towards the stern of the vessel. The photographer is standing approximately 31ft from the stern. There is new damage to the decking and the gun runners (probably from below) caused by shell fire. This damage runs horizontally across the majority of the photograph, and was not present in photograph no.1. The deck also appears to be wetter than in photograph no.1. The photograph was therefore taken after photograph no. 1.
3. A port side view looking down the top deck towards the stern of the vessel. The photographer is standing approximately 76ft from the stern, adjacent to the primary steering wheel. The photograph may have been taken soon before or after photograph no.1.
4. A port side view looking down the top deck towards the stern of the vessel. The photographer is standing approximately 50ft from the stern. There is new damage to the decking caused by shell fire. This damage was not present in photograph no.3. The photograph may have been taken soon before or after photograph no.2, and certainly after photograph no. 3. The toilet cabin on the right hand side of the photograph is missing a door.
5. A view from the upper (main) deck at midships, looking either aft on the port side or forward on the starboard side - it is unclear which.
6. A close up view, possibly of the same section as seen in photograph no.5, with new damage caused by shell fire. The photograph was taken after photograph no.5.
7. A close up view of an unidentified section of the hull, having been damaged by shell fire. The photograph was probably taken from onboard, looking down the side of the vessel. What seem to be smaller vessels are seen in the background.
8. A close up view of damage caused by shell fire at an unidentified location, possibly a gun hole, onboard the vessel.
9. A view of the upper deck, looking towards the stern. The photographer is standing approximately 110ft from the stern, on the starboard side. The photograph shows damage from shell fire as well as the starboard capstan.
10. A port side view of the upper deck towards the stern (approximately 43ft from the stern), looking towards the bow of the vessel. There are dummies hanging from the ceiling, and also seen in the photograph are the aft bits. The aft mast appears to have been removed.
11. A port side view of the same location as in photograph no.10, but taken from slightly closer to the stern, and a view of a slightly different angle (looking more towards starboard side). The photograph was taken after no.10., as there is now damage caused by shell fire, with the dummies having fallen on the floor, and the port side bit having lost its cover.
12. A view of the same location as in photograph nos.10 & 11 (taken after the shell fire), but taken by the starboard side bit, looking towards the stern and the port side.
13. A view possibly in the same location as in photograph nos.10, 11 & 12, but looking towards the aft starboard side corner of the room. There is a good deal of damage caused by shell fire, with a large hole in the hull.
14. A view of an unidentified location, possibly on the lower deck of the vessel. A pipe is seen running along parallel to the view of the photograph, and also seen are three black and white targets on the wall in the centre of the photograph.
15. A view of an unidentified location (possibly the same location as in photograph no.14, but with no pipe work seen), possibly on the lower deck of the vessel. There is evidence of the white and black targets of photograph no.14, but these have faded badly, white paint or chalk has been used for lots of new markings and numberings, suggesting this was taken after photograph no.14. There are holes in the wall, with one of the holes appearing to be shaped like a dog.
16. A view of a different location to photograph nos.14 & 15, but probably on the lower deck. This time there are two black and white targets on the wall, in the centre of the photograph.
17. A view of an unidentified location (the same location as in photograph no.16), possibly on the lower deck of the vessel. There is evidence of the white and black targets of photograph no.16, but the left hand target has faded badly, with another target outline being put over the top of it and to the left, using white paint or chalk (this target has a hole in the centre of it). The right hand target has been obliterated, with a large hole in the wall at this target.
18. A view of an unidentified location, possibly on the port side towards the bow, after the vessel was hit by shell fire. The dummy which was hanging up in the corner has fallen on the floor. The photograph is focusing on the hull, with on the left hand side of the photograph. The photograph was possibly taken approximately 75ft from the bow.
19. A view of the same location in photograph no.18 before the vessel was attacked. The dummy is seen in the corner hanging from the ceiling. The view is slightly different to that of photograph no.18, focusing more on the corner rather than along the hull. The scuttle is seen in the bottom left hand corner of the photograph.
20. A view of an unidentified location onboard HMS Resistance (it may be in the same part of the ship as photograph nos.18 & 19). There is evidence of shell fire damage, with a hole in the wall, on the right hand side of the photograph, and there is also what appears to be rubble in the corner of the room. A dummy is seen hanging from the ceiling in the centre of the photograph.
21. A view of another unidentified location onboard HMS Resistance (it may be in the same part of the ship as photograph nos.18, 19 & 20). There is evidence of shell fire damage, with a hole in the wall, on the left hand side of the photograph.
22. A starboard side view of HMS Resistance as a gunnery target, taken possibly from the shore or another vessel. The photograph seems to have been taken before the vessel was attacked by shell fire. Along the side of the hull are several black and white targets (as well as targets marked out possibly by chalk of paint), numbered from left to right, 24-15. A man is seen on the top deck, to the left hand side of the photograph, facing the camera and possibly waving his hat in the air.
