HMS Triumph (1903) at Smyrna and Dardanelles in 1915

A red cloth covered album containing 84 photographs glued in with 2 photographs loose. Some of the photographs have been copied. The album was compiled by Lt Cmdr. Philip V. Kilgour RN.

This album contains photographs documenting Commander Kilgour’s service in HMS Triumph (1903) during 1915. Ships included are HMS Swiftsure (1903), HMS Carmania (1905), SS Aenne Rickmers (1911) and HMS Inflexible (1907). There are also group photographs of officers and crew of HMS Triumph (1903) as well as topographical views of the Dardanelles, Smyrna and the Suez Canal. There are also a few family snapshots. Commander Kilgour has captioned most of the photographs. After the capture of Tsing-tau in November 1914, HMS Triumph joined the Dardanelles fleet in February 1915. On 25th May 1915 she was torpedoed off Gaba Tepe and sank. Over 500 men were rescued by HMS Chelmer and other vessels. Three officers and 70 men lost their lives.
