A photograph album with black board covers and a broken spine, containing 72 black and white 279mm x 228mm photographs mounted one to a page. Inscribed on the upper cover in gilt letters is "File. Photographs. P.&.O.S.N.Co. Publicity Dept." The fly leaf shows photographs to be taken by Bedford Lemere & Co. 147, Strand, London W.C.
This is an album illustrating passenger accommodation in ships of the fleet 1881-88, and includes the following vessels: Rome (1881) in September 1881, Clyde (1881) in September 1881, Shannon (1881) in January 1882, Ganges (1881) in March 1882, Thames (1881) in March 1882, Sutlej (1881) in April 1882, Parramatta (1882) in May 1883, Massilia (1884) in April 1884, Britannia (1887) in December 1887, Victoria (1887) in December 1887, Oceania (1888) in March 1888, Peninsular (1888) in December 1888, Arcadia (1888) in December 1888.
The album also includes P&O offices, Leadenhall Street, London, April 1891; and also Royal Naval Exhibition, Chelsea, June-July 1891 (with Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales and others).
