Union Castle Mail Steamship Company Limited - Various vessels
A dark green bound leather album in very bad condition. The covers are torn and stuffing coming out. There are 17 pages and 35 photographs mounted one to a page and individually captioned.
The album includes interiors of the following vessels: Walmer Castle (1902), Kenilworth Castle (1904), Scot (1891), Dunvegan Castle (1896), Norman (1894), Durham Castle (1904), Gascon (1897), Dover Castle (1904), Braemar Castle (1898), Dunottar Castle (1890).
There are negatives of P.39814/5 (Pages 18 and 19 of this album, these were recieved loose with the second large Union-Castle acquisition in 1990 and have now been put back in the album. Other pages, particularly of Scot interiors, are still missing).
There were 58 photographs in the album originally, the following are missing: 1,10,11,20,21,22,23,30,31,32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39,44,45,56,57.
The following plates were copied by Union-Caslte and glass negatives are in the collection: 18 (Scot), which was also copied by the NMM (P.39814) - First Saloon; 30 (Dunvegan Castle) - First Smoking Room.
