A cord bound photograph album with black boards. There are 50 leaves, 160 photographs, corner mounted and captioned.

This album contains photographs relating to the service of HMS Petersfield (1919) while on the China Station during the Chinese civil war and include deck scenes, ship portraits, groups and topographical scenes. There are also photographs of the Wanhsien Incident taken from the river gunboat HMS Kia Wo (1925). In September 1926 two Chinese Navigation company steamers, the Wanshien and Wantung were seized by the Chinese bandit Yang Sen. The Kia Wo was requisitioned by the Royal Navy to take action against him manned by a naval party from HMS Despatch.

Launched in 1919, HMS Petersfield was a Hunt class minesweeper. She was recommissioned at Hong Kong 23 February 1925 for the China Station and served as an Admiral’s yacht being re-masted and funnelled in 1927. She was wrecked on 11 November 1931 off Tung Yung Island while on passage from Shanghai to Fuzhou.
