A chart of the North Sea, from the Forelands to North Bergen, and from the Scaw to the Orkneys and Shetland. Shewing the harbours, havens, bays and roads, banks, rocks, shoals, depths of water, &ca. with the most remarkable appearances of land. Done from various surveys, of the British, Dutch, and Danish pilots by James Thompson, Mariner, 1777.

Chart on 4 sheets joined, now backed with archive paper. Scale [circa 1:200,000]. The scales are in English & French sea leagues, Dutch, Danish & German miles and Norway miles. North is at 90 degrees. The borders are graduated for latitude and the chart contains rhumb lines. Soundings, variation and the tidal set are marked. There are numerous coastal profiles at the top and bottom edges of the chart. There are two text panels: Directions for going to and coming from Norway; and Observations on the appearances of land.

This chart was included in Sayer & Bennett's East India Pilot Vol II.
