Carreck Fergus
Single sheet,engraving, mounted on modern backing sheet. Scale [circa 1:75,000 bar]. Scale in English miles. This chart of Carrickfergus, Belfast Lough, is ungraduated and has sparse soundings. It contains a view: A prospect of Carreck-Fergus, being the place where King William landed in Ireland. The dedication cartouche, to William III of Great Britain, France and Ireland, is decorated with flags, armour and weapons, and surmounted by Victory crowning a bust of the king.
In the War of the English Succession, William III landed at Carrickfergus in 1690, prior to defeating James II at the Battle of the Boyne. The key to the view announces that the king was in the Mary Yacht with Collins (the maker of this chart) as Captain.
