Single sheet, manuscript. Scale: [ca. 1:75 000 (bar)]. Lat & long noted, variation marked. Soundings and shoals, notes on tide. Scale of 1 mile. Alternative spellings: Quseer, Kossier. A text note states: In this small anchorage all the ships lay, that brought the army over from India in 1801 but from the badness of the ground, most ships lost their [anchors] and several of them much damaged from falling on board each other. A very heavy swell constantly setting in. All the Men of War left one or two anchors behind them. A - A Genl Baird's Army encamped here, prior to crossing the desert to Ghinnah.
Admiral Blankett's squadron had orders to occupy Suez or Quseer as a landing place for the troops which were being sent to fight the French army in Egypt. Blankett reached Suez, which had been abandoned by the French. He then returned to Quseer where the expedition had already arrived.
