Album relating to the naval service of Master Mariner Bernard Neal Doubleday, 1918-1919

This is a photograph album with 50 leaves and 262 photographs pasted down as well as one loose photograph, which are captioned.

This album contains photographs relating to the sea-going career of master mariner Bernard Neal Doubleday when he was living in Hong Kong. Ships include Laertes (1919) - launch, boiler, War Drummer (1919) - launch, Raifuku Maru (1918) - (sank 19 April 1925) keel laying to trials in 30 days, War Sniper (1919) - launch, and Knight Companion (1913). There are many photographs of Hong Kong, 1918-19, groups of family and friends and photographs of merchant navy officers, some unidentified.

Bernard Neal Doubleday was born 15th May 1887 in Grimsby. He qualified as a master mariner in August 1912 having served on the following ships: SS Falls of Orchy (1907), Trematon (1904) , Jonathan Holt (1910), and Stanfield (1899). He died in 1976 in Kings Lynn.
