Bowl
A white earthenware bowl, transfer-printed overall with a floral design. In the centre, a globe is surrounded by an inscription on a garter: 'GENERAL STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY 1824'. The globe is inscribed with the names 'EUROPE, ASIA, AFRICA, INDIAN OCEAN, NEW HOLLAND, SOUTHERN OCEAN'. The maker's name is impressed on the base. A label written in August 1925 says that the bowl was 'Picked up by a trawl off Canvey Island over 60 years ago'.
