Full hull model; Frame

Scale: 1:12. Frame from a contemporary full hull model of a boom boat (1852), complete with a deck, frames, a landing ramp in the bow and four pairs of swivelling metal clamps used for securing cargo. Built and designed to be stored in the area between the fore and main masts, known as the boom, these boats were used to store the spare topmasts and spars when on board the mother ship. They were generally rowed with two to three pairs of oars and this model is said to represent one that was carried on board HMS 'Thetis’, a 32-gun frigate launched in 1846. She went to the Prussian Navy in exchange for two gunboats in 1855.
