A cream coloured individual sugar bowl with a gold band around the rim. The house flag of the New Zealand Shipping Co. is printed on the side (a pennant striped vertically red, white and blue; hoisted below it, a white flag with a red cross overall - the initials 'N Z S Co' in the quarters). Below the flag is the inscription 'NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY LTD'. The design is printed and coloured over the glaze. The company was inaugurated in Christchurch in 1872 and changed over to steam in the 1880s. It was part of the P&O Group after 1915.
