Chart showing the Vicinity of King William Island with the various positions in which relics of the Arctic Expedition under Sir John Franklin have been found. Compiled by Lieut-Commdr R.T. Gould R.N.
Scale approx. 1:1,000,000.
This British Admiralty publication records the locations where relics of the Franklin expedition were discovered on and around King William Island where many of Franklin’s men died. Rupert Gould compiled information brought back by the searching expeditions led by Anderson (1855), McClintock (1859), Hall (1866), Schwatka (1879), Rasmussen (1924), Norberg (1926) and Burwash (1926). A note states: 'The information shown in red is based upon the personal observations of various British and American explorers in the region. The information show in blue is based upon various Eskimo reports obtained by those explorers, and probably is not altogether trustworthy'.
This copy has manuscript annotations for 1959 and the position of the magnetic pole.
