Celestial miniature globe

Stand for celestial miniature globe. It forms a pair with the terrestrial globe by Gerard and Leonard Valk GLB0246. Astronomical details on the sphere include a magnitude table below the constellation of Cetus. The Milky Way is labelled, and the 48 Ptolemaic constellations and four of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. Three of the southern constellations are drawn as well as those of Plancius and those of Hevelius. Not all the constellations are labelled and some of the constellations of Plancius are incomplete due to damage.

The precise date of this pair is unknown but it can be shown that the terrestrial globe was designed between 1715 and 1728. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
