Battlecruiser LION (1910)
This photograph is looking forward from the quarterdeck of the battlecruiser Lion (1910), flagship of the 1st Battle Cruiser Squadron of the Grand Fleet, while at sea in either mid-April 1918 or July-August 1918, showing the Sopwith Camel 2F-1 fighter aeroplane, serial N6647, on a flying-off platform sited on top of ‘Y’ 12 inch gun turret. Deflection scales are painted on the sides of the turret.
