Looking aft along the length of the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913) in the North Sea
The photograph was taken from the foremast crows nest of the light cruiser AURORA (1913) during a patrol in the southern North Sea in September 1915 when she was leader of the 10th Destroyer Flotilla of the Harwich Force. It shows the after part of the ship while at cruising stations. None of the guns’ crews are closed up by the 4 inch guns, and the port 30 feet motor boat is not on board. During 1916 the AURORA became a unit of the 5th Light Cruiser Squadron, still in the Harwich Force and was subsequently fitted for mine laying.
