A casualty is transferred ashore from HMS Duke of York (1940)
A casualty being transferred to a lighter to be taken to hospital ashore from the battleship HMS Duke of York (1940). This individual in question is reputed to be a German survivor from KM Scharnhorst (1936). The photograph was taken from near the port upper 5.25-inch twin mount, looking aft. The number '293' can be made out on the funnel of the lighter receiving the casualty, but the precise identity of this vesel has yet to be established.
