British and Soviet naval officers enjoying a concert aboard HMS Duke of York

British and Soviet naval officers enjoying a concert aboard HMS Duke of York (1940) while in Soviet waters, late 1943. This photograph was probably taken at Kola, following the sinking of KM Scharnhorst. Although the exact location is uncertain, it is very likely this gathering took place at the after end of the ship's main deck - the location of the Gun Room, Ward Room and senior officers' accommodation. the seated figures in the front row have been identified as (from left to right): Captain Rigeman (senior Soviet liaison officer), Vice-Admiral Golovko (Commander of Soviet naval forces in the White Sea area), Lieutenant Higgins RNR (interpreter) and Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser (C-in-C, Home Fleet).
