Battle plan of bombardment of Algiers

'Copy of a plan of attack on Algiers, taken after the bombardment on the 27th August 1816 by Mr Gage the Master of the Fleet and Lieut Col Gossett ... Captain Warde of the Banterer took the plan of the work by Lord Exmouth's directions at the end of 1815 or the beginning of 1816. The soundings by Mr Thacker (always in the night) the Master of the Banterer, except those close to the Mole head which were taken by Mr Gage the Master of the Fleet and Lieutenant Frederick Michell when in the Boyne together.' Manuscript battle plan showing the harbour defences at Algiers and the positions of the British ships during the bombardment, owned by Frederick Michell, who took part in the action. The attack was part of a long running campaign to end the activities of the Barbary pirates, who operated out of Algiers.
