Formidable (1939)
Scale 1:96. Proposed modification of flight deck (not carried out) for the fleet aircraft carrier HMS Formidable (1939).
Drawing is marked in pencil on the front "Layout of Flight Deck for High Speed Aircraft" and on the back "FLIGHT DECK FORMIDABLE MODERNISATION OPERATION TRIDENT". Also marked on the back "L.R. Truscott, Sec 16, Room 92A D.N.C. 6-7-48".
Proposed alterations included (no angled deck - not yet invented): lift at stern (55x32ft); existing aft lift deleted; new aft centreline lift (55x44ft); side lift port, opposite island (56x35ft); forward centreline lift deleted(?); new smaller island (90x21ft); new port catapult; second (stbd) catapult; forward 4.5ins guns reduced to one twin each side and resited further aft; aft 4.5 ins guns resited further forward.
