A 12x10 negative. A starboard near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Papanui (1898) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. Awnings are rigged over the bridge and the poop and she is flying the blue peter. The paddle ferry/passenger tender Tilbury (1883) is alongside transferring passengers. The Papanui (1898) was scheduled to depart later the same day to make her way to Plymouth before continuing to New Zealand. Tilbury docks are in the background.
