Figure
An earthenware figure of Captain James Cook (1728-1779) based on the portrait by Nathaniel Dance. He has a blue coat, white waistcoat with black spots and dull orange breeches; the details are picked out with gilding. Cook is shown seated in a chair with his right arm resting on a table on which is an unrolled document. The base of the figure is enclosed with gilt lines around the edge.
