Figure
A Staffordshire earthenware figure of Lady Jane Franklin (1792-1875), wife of the Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin, forming a pair with that of her husband. The figure is predominantly white with the head and base painted in natural colours, 'LADY FRANKLIN' in gold on the base. She wears a wreath of flowers, a dress with oversleeves and an apron. Lady Jane played a leading role in funding and encouraging the search for her husband's missing expedition during the late 1840s and 1850s.
