'Shops in Savannah'
This is one of 262 drawings and 2 paintings presented to the Museum by the artist's family in 2012, and related to John Kingsley Cook's wartime service in the merchant navy between December 1940 and August 1945. This scene was drawn on the back of a fragment of a navigational chart, US Coast Chart no.157, published by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey - 'From Sapelo Island, Georgia, to Amelia Island, Florida'. The back of the drawing bears, in the artist's hand, the title, 'Shops in Savannah', as well as a shopping list.
